One more vital reason to hang on to J&K

Being in the US, the debate going on in India seems to muted... I can only imagine the kind of furore this topic is raising back in my dear des....

So let me add my 2c on one more reason why we should not let go of J&K...

Water.
India & Pakistan signed the Indus Water Treaty under the aegis of the World Bank in 1960. This is one of the few (or only) treaty that's been upheld through all the wars that we've had with Pakistan... to the extent that no one has actually threatened to unilaterally repeal the Treaty in the face of armed opposition (citation needed).

The question then arises... if we do hand over the state of J&K to Pakistan, then will Pakistan uphold the treaty the same way we have?

I believe water scarcity is a big thing in the future & our major agricultural output in Punjab depends on the Indus waters. Do we really want to be at the receiving end of Pakistan's largesse with water?

Windows driver development - Compilation...

If you are getting the error

fatal error C1007: unrecognized flag '-typedil' in 'p2'
LINK : fatal error LNK1257: code generation failed

or

fatal error C1007: unrecognized flag '-typedil' in 'p2'
LINK : fatal error LNK1257: code generation failed

The issue I have found is that you are using the cl.exe version 14 and link.exe version 8 from the WinDDK folder.

Prepened the VC 9.0\bin to the PATH variable to point to the cl.exe v 15.00 & link.exe v.9.0. The VC 9.0\bin has the x86 compiler, and the VC 9.0\bin\x86_x64 for the compiler for the x86 machine for the adm64 target.

Hope this helps.

Update for Virtusa...

Looks like Virtusa forgot the circumstances in which I quit, because they gave me my relieving letter. :) They still kept one month salary of mine, but good riddance.

Virtusa Sucks...

We always think companies as stupid, etc... but this is the first time that I've seen a company that's brain-dead AND vindictive...

I joined Virtusa, and worked there for 3 years. When I came to the US on a L1 visa, I decided to apply for a MS degree. Once I got an admit in February, I informed my bosses that I was going away in August, and they were cool with it.

I transferred my job to a guy more than a month before I went away, and submitted my resignation. And immediately I was inundated with screeching HR, yelling that it was 'illegal' to switch from a L1 to a F1 visa. I did talk to my manager and he clarified that he would take care of it, and I pretty much let it go. Like a good boy, I returned the company equipment (a laptop), and came to school.

Of course, I could have been a little less lazy, and perhaps a little smarter and asked for the resignation letter before I quit, but the truth is that one doesn't think that a company can do stupid shit like this, and I've worked in a lot of stupid companies.

With the workload at school, I didn't really bother to follow up with them, and now that I have the time, if I send them mail, no one bothers to follow up. Mails sent to HR, and the VPs seem to get deleted... heh.. they might have added my name to the blocked list.

So, basically I am stuck with the company not paying me for my final month's work (Rs. 30, 000/-) and my experience letter, and not sure how to go about getting it back. After all, its been 13 months. There are other people stuck in this mess too, and they've worked for more years in Virtusa than the VPs or the CEO. Heh. Ironic.

And guys, if a company can be THIS petty & cheap, there is no saying what else they will be cheap or petty about. So in case anyone is joining Virtusa, please be aware that if you quit from on-site (irrespective of reasons), they will NOT give you what you should expect.

Be smart!

Currently...

Doing:

Now that I've managed to get admission into Iowa State U., I have to hunt for funding... so I am funding hunting!!

Reading:

Fifty Eastern Thinkers - Diane Collinson, et al.

A pretty good account of Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist and Jaina philosophy.

Half the right-wing sites I read or books I read focus on the differences between different religions and Hinduism. It is very rare that other philosophical thoughts are put forward with any sort of objectivity. I've never really noted the philosophical background of Islam, esp. against Hindu thought. It's good to see the similarities rather than the differences.

Watching:

Hellsing.

It rocks!!! I saw the first episode and it blew my mind. Can't wait to watch the next episodes.

Meditation with tight jeans...

Today went to Bridgewater temple in New Jersey... sat in front of my favourite deity Lord Shiva, and was trying to meditate.

Unfortunately, my expanding girth is making the comfort fit jeans feel like a second skin. Sat down near the wall so I could see the shivalingam. Unfortunately, my body decided to complain about the constraints that I was putting on it, so I ended up focusing more on the staying power of the zip and my aching back, rather than the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra.

I think I managed to recite the mantra about 9 times before I started worrying about the tummy deciding that it had enough of this forced imprisonment and that it wanted to run away to join the circus.

Don't tell my tummy, but it can audition for the Adidas 'Belly's gonna get you' ad.

Moral of the story: 1. Meditate in clothes that won't distract from the main purpose.
2. Exercise is good.
3. Tight jeans are potential killers.

Just finished:

Sleep....

For the past few days, I've not been sleeping as much as I should. I think I am sleeping for less than 5 hours on average for the past 3 days. It hasn't yet hit my productivity, but then I don't have anything to do at work anyway.

Finally went to sleep at 4, and got woken up at 7. Call from India. Work issues...

I've realized that my brain works despite being sleep deprived (might help when I move to college, and move to a good gaming co.). Still, updating perl & shell scripts like a pro.... heh.. helps that I *am* a pro, by definition.
