One more vital reason to hang on to J&K

Being in the US, the debate going on in India seems to muted... I can only imagine the kind of furore this topic is raising back in my dear des....

So let me add my 2c on one more reason why we should not let go of J&K...

Water.
India & Pakistan signed the Indus Water Treaty under the aegis of the World Bank in 1960. This is one of the few (or only) treaty that's been upheld through all the wars that we've had with Pakistan... to the extent that no one has actually threatened to unilaterally repeal the Treaty in the face of armed opposition (citation needed).

The question then arises... if we do hand over the state of J&K to Pakistan, then will Pakistan uphold the treaty the same way we have?

I believe water scarcity is a big thing in the future & our major agricultural output in Punjab depends on the Indus waters. Do we really want to be at the receiving end of Pakistan's largesse with water?
